Vicki Davis

vicki.jpgVicki Davis is a teacher and the IT director at Westwood Schools in Camilla, Georgia. Vicki co-created three award winning international wiki-centric projects, the Flat Classroom project, the Horizon project, and Digiteen with teacher Julie Lindsay, currently at Qatar Academy. These projects have linked more than 500 students from both public and private schools in such countries as Austria, Australia, Bangladesh, China, Japan, Spain, Qatar and the US. These collaborative projects harnessing the most powerful Web 2.0 tools available including wikis, blogs, digital storytelling, podcasts, social bookmarking, and more. Vicki is a cofounder of the Women of Web 2 and has been featured in various media including Thomas Friedman's book, The World is Flat, the Wall Street Journal, and the Boston Globe.

Vicki blogs at the Cool Cat Teacher blog which has been an edublog award finalist for Best Teacher blog for the last two years and is currently ranked the top teacher blog in the world according to Technorati. Vicki is a Google Certified Teacher and Discovery S.T.A.R. Educator. Vicki's will publish her first book in Fall of 2008 entitled ClickSmart about the holistic method of teaching software that she uses in her classroom. This method enables her to teach a wide variety of software programs and build technical fluency and digital savvy that continues to distinguish her students in their global projects. Vicki is also a freelance writer and conference presenter.

Julie Lindsay

Julie_Lindsay_May08.jpgJulie Lindsay, currently Head of Information Technology and E-Learning at Qatar Academy, Doha, State of Qatar, is an enthusiastic, global-minded education leader and innovator. Originally from Melbourne, Australia over the past 10 years she has been teaching and leading the use of technology in schools in Zambia, Kuwait, Bangladesh and Qatar. Her wealth of diverse work experience is complemented by Masters of Arts degrees from La Trobe University in Melbourne and George Washington University in Washington, DC. She is also co-winner with Vicki Davis of ISTE's SIGTEL's Online Learning Award 2007 and Taking IT Global Best Online Learning Project 2007 for the Flat Classroom Project.

Julie is recognized worldwide for her innovative programs using a wide array of Web 2.0 tools to transform learning for the emerging digital, "world-is-flat" educational landscape. From ubiquitous mobile technology programs to the Flat Classroom Project Julie brings front line experiences to share with teachers, school leaders and policy makers alike. Julie is a frequent presenter on the world stage, she is a tireless volunteer leader for professional associations, and she is an inspiration to colleagues and collaborators demonstrating just how different world-class education will be in this 21st Century.

Don Knezek

Knezek, CAE, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE®) is a leader of innovation for transforming education with technology and recognized internationally for his leadership in collaboration, planning and standards development related to technology in schools. Don holds degrees from Dartmouth College, the University of Hawaii and the University of Texas at Austin. In his 28 years as a professional educator, Knezek worked in a variety of academic and administrative settings, including K–12 classroom, district office, university, regional service center, state department of education, and national and international technology organizations. He directed large multi-state projects in the Star Schools and Preparing Tomorrow’s Teachers to Use Technology programs of the U.S. Department of Education.

Don is Co-Chair of the Educational Technology Advisory Committee to the Texas State Board of Education and Co-Director for the National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) Project -- an important ISTE initiative. He currently serves on the NETS Refresh Project leadership team updating ISTE’s standards, and he recently directed the National (U.S.) Center for Preparing Tomorrows Teachers to Use Technology (NCPT3). Don is providing consulting services to ministries of education around the world sharing his valued expertise in preparing education leaders and teachers to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

Lynn Nolan

(Senior Strategic Initiatives Officer, ISTE)

Lynn_-_Cairo.JPGLynn Nolan’s background encompasses extensive professional experience in the field of education locally, nationally, and globally. She presently serves as the Senior Strategic Initiatives Officer for the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). In this role Lynn facilitates strategic planning for enhancing the organization’s global presence, and identifies, explores, defines and shares opportunities for partnering and collaborating with associations, institutions, agencies, and other organizations. She also serves as the National Workshop Chair for ISTE’s National Education Computing Conference and the Program Chair for the International Conference on Teaching and Learning with Technology, jointly organized by ISTE and the Singapore Ministry of Education.

Dr. Nolan has extensively published and presented at US and international conferences, including a recent presentation in Singapore at the Third International Conference on Educational Technology in the Microsoft Partners in Learning strand. She currently serves as the National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) Project Director where she is leading the refresh of ISTE’s NETS. Lynn participated in the development of UNESCO’s ICT Competency Standards for Teachers and represented ISTE, a collaborative partner with UNESCO in this initiative, at the Standards Launch in London in January, 2008. Dr. Nolan has advised on the integration of ICT standards in schools, districts, and states in the U.S. and other countries, including Brazil, China, and India. She is facilitating ICT standards development and launched the first phase of this project with the Ministry of Education in May, 2007 in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia.

Lynn’s doctoral dissertation, “Forward to the Future: A Delphi Study of the Future of Education” has provided her with insight into the direction of technology’s role in the schools of the future. The Delphi panelists that worked with Lynn as a part of her research were ten renowned experts in the future of education. Together they forecast possible, probable, and preferable events for the future of education. This provided her with an understanding of the possibilities that educators may look forward to in the next few years. Lynn is also a long-time member of the World Future Society.

(Flat Classroom Teacher and Digital Educator)

John has been teaching with computers across Years 7 through 12 for over twenty years in Melbourne, AUSTRALIA. As a department head he is responsible for the information technology curriculum and supporting teachers across the curriculum in using computers to advance student learning. This includes leading a teacher mentor system where teacher partnerships are developed to extend the learning opportunities for teachers and students. He has researched in support of his classroom work which saw him complete a PHD in 1999 on the attitudes and aptitudes of Secondary Mathematics teachers towards using constructionist software with a School Mathematics curriculum.

John has presented at state, national and international conferences . This has included the 2008 Australian Computers in Education Conference (TeachIT: Act now for teacher ICT learning and Wikis: Taking Learning To The World) and the International Conference on Computers in Education in Singapore, December 2005. (A research-supported approach to using Weblogs as a sustainable educational innovation in an Australian post-primary school). He has also had papers published on teacher learning.

John has been part of the Horizon Projects 2007/08 as well as the Flat Classroom Projects 2007/08. These projects have been part of a Web 2 curriculum that is seeing curriculum change across all subjects as part of the changes required to serve 21st century learners and schools. This includes satisfying educational system requirements such as external examinations and professional teacher growth.

Jeff Utecht

(Educational Technology consultant)

Jeff_Profile.jpgJeff Utecht is an international educator and educational technology consultant. Currently Jeff is working as the Elementary Technology and Learning Coordinator for the International School Bangkok. Additionally, Jeff is collaborating with EARCOS (East Asia Regional Council of Overseas Schools) as a technology consultant and with the Wiki company, Jeff is an adjunct professor for Plymouth State University in their Technology Education program. Jeff is a main coordinator for the Learning 2.0 Educational Technology Conference in Asia. Jeff regularly shares his thoughts on education and technology on his blog, Jeff and his blog have recently been mentioned in the books Reinventing Project-Based Learning as an avenue for “free online professional development” and Web 2.0, New Tools, New Schools. He was one of the original judges of the Flat Classroom Project and Horizon Projects.

Frank Guttler

Frank Guttler is an independent consultant and Technical Specialist to the Los Angeles County Office of Education’s Multimedia Services providing of specialized film/video/media training and curriculum to county-wide teacher professional development outreach programs and is a classroom instructor for a state-sponsored, career-track high school media academy.

Frank began his career as a TV/Film/Digital Media Producer and was Associate Director of the American Film Institute K-12 Screen Education Center responsible for developing and leading transformational visual literacy and basic filmmaking workshops for K-12 educators at state, national and international conferences . With AFI for 10 years, Frank served the Advanced Technology and Professional Training Programs of the AFI Conservatory by producing educational and professional outreach programs such as the California Digital Arts Workshop, Media & Technology Salons and the AFI Digital Video Filmmakers Symposium.
